Strategically Letting Go…
To Move Your Creative Project Forward

© 2007-2008  Richard Chandler Saint Cloud, Minnesota USA

“Meditation is the breeze that comes in when you leave the window open; but if you deliberately keep it open, deliberately invite it to come, it will never appear.”

- J. Krishnamurti (1895-1986)

This Krishnamurti quotation, while about meditation, alludes to a principle that may be helpful to you, as it has been to me, for more easily accomplishing projects where meditative awareness, creativity and inspiration play a prominent role.

While we do need to build a structure for our project, be it a piece of writing, art, a new protocol for our work or even an untried dish for the evening meal, there are times in that process where we need to drop concern about how it will all turn out.

Have you found yourself in the midst of creating something, when your forward progress was suddenly blocked by an unforeseen difficulty? And when that occurs, have you noticed how unconsciously you can begin to obsess about whether or not the project will even work, wondering if you might as well declare failure right away?

It is at this very time that we can, as a strategic act, deliberately let go of outcome, relaxing instead into the notion that fresh inspiration to carry us around or through that particular difficulty is likely to arrive soon after we simply take a break from the whole thing. Often, the break may be even shorter than how short we were with ourselves, as we tightened up with frustration. So this is a good time to laugh a little at our seriousness and remind ourselves that ultimately it just isn’t that big a deal.

Letting go in this way, you may feel the refreshing breeze of new inspiration and insight blowing through, reanimating your project and reenergizing you to once again move forward to completion of your creative endeavor.
